Ready to Overhaul Your Life and Don’t Know Where to Start? This is Your First Step

Our purpose here is to help guys start thinking about those drastic positive changes in their life and taking the steps towards them. For guys who feel lost to start taking steps towards their own hero’s journey. If you’re here, chances are you followed through with what it was that you thought you were supposed to do in life and it didn’t turn out so great. So many males, young and old, are waking up to the fact that the blueprint for a good life that was handed to them is basically a giant load of bullshit and they’re wanting to find a better blueprint. One that actually works. The first thing that you need to know is that there is no one-size-fits-all and one of the secrets is to find what works for you. This is especially true for personal health, getting in shape and nutrition. You have to find the right diet that works for you, you have to find the right exercise routine that works for you and you have to find the right type of exercise for you. Beware of people that insist that all people have to do things in one certain way. Don’t listen to those people and don’t be afraid to tune them out. You have to find what works for you. Period.

Each person has individual talents, interests and experiences and so there is no one-size-fits-all. It’s too easy to fall into stale habits that don’t challenge us or help us grow. For example, we can easily fall into scrolling through social media as a way to pass a few minutes and then, before long, it deteriorates into a bad habit. Take a minute and think about your routines each day and ask yourself which ones are keeping you in a rut. Are they stale? Do they help you grow? Do they add anything of real value to your life? Do they make you happy? Do they make you rich?

Are you ready to make some positive changes that will help you build a life that you love? Here’s the first step that I am going to challenge you to take. Start doing something new that you aren’t used to doing or haven’t ever done before. Let me explain. I often see a lot of guys who want something different but they are extremely focused on learning and they don’t involve themselves in enough of the action part of changing. Too many people are afraid of taking action and doing things because they are afraid to fail or maybe they are afraid of what other people will think. But what’s pretty interesting is when people have analysis paralysis and they find themselves so afraid of doing the wrong thing that they do anything at all and what they need to understand is that is the worst thing of all. Not doing anything at all is far worse than potentially making the wrong decisions. They need to understand that it’s far more important to just do something and the idea that you can maintain some level of perfectionism is nonsense. This is a fear driven stance that will cripple you.

If any of this describes you then I want you to know that at some point you’re going to have to make a couple of first steps but they don’t have to be big ones and that’s what I’m getting at here. Learning is great. Whether you’re reading books, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube videos or whatever, you must also be taking action and doing something different. You should be learning, you should be absorbing information but you absolutely should also be doing things too.

Right now, you can find something simple, easy and cheap. Personal growth can accelerate with something simple and relatively easy. In fact, it should. Choose to start doing something that you would find fun, enjoyable and is relatively cheap and easy. I’ll give some example in a minute but there’s are some really specific and important reasons behind this.

  • First, it will deal with the problem of inertia and that is the struggle that most of us have with just getting started.
  • It will disrupt those same old stale routines and help you become more accustomed to change instead of resistant to it.
  • It helps promote neuroplasticity which is the science of your brain changing and shifting in order to adjust to change which happens from doing things differently. As you grow older, it’s important to take on new and different things, it’s really what helps keep your brain young and flexible. Bigger changes are easier when you’re regularly engaged in making small changes.

Like I said before, you don’t have to take on anything big, at all. It can be simple, cheap and low risk. Just do something. Start doing some pushups every day, take on a new project in your yard, go somewhere new like a museum. The idea is to just do something so that you can overcome the problem of inertia or the struggle of creating some initial motion.

I’m going to give some examples from my own life .

Because I wanted to bring things that were geared to be more artistic and creative, I first started playing around with some blank canvases and some spray paint in my back yard. The projects are pretty simple but it’s still fun and is pushing me to do some new things. I also started doing a jigsaw puzzle. I picked one out that I thought was cool and when I’m done I can glue it together and hang it up as art. Doing a puzzle is relaxing and it helps me learn more patience. It’s also a great way for me to remember that completion is a process. This summer I’m also planning on taking mountain biking lessons and try kayaking. It helps me feel young and I also believe that it’s important for a man to face a little bit of fear and danger. It’s a quick and easy way to feel more empowered and as though my life has some meaning and purpose.

So here is your challenge, try something new, do something different. How long would it take you to learn how to juggle? You could do it at home alone, it’s cheap and it will help with all the things that I mentioned before. The important thing is to move. Start physically moving. Sitting around and thinking about change isn’t helpful. Success and happiness isn’t going to fall into your lap. You have to get up and make it happen.
